Barry Lyndon is one of her three favorite movies; she watched it often in her twenties via two VHS tapes. Loves its comedy and its warmth, and thinks Kubrick's other films are funny too. Hates having to name one favorite movie.

Stances

  • Nearly all of Kubrick's films are satires
  • O'Neal is the best application of him in any movie
  • She sees Barry differently at 42 than as a teenager

Humor: Dry and self-deprecating, with film-history deep cuts.

In their words

  • “so fun.” (0:06:49)
  • “Yeah, I worked at a video store, and I decided that I was just going to like take home all the movies one by one that were on 2 tapes because those were like probably important.” (0:16:52)

Their shows' recurring bits

Running bits, not opinions; a critic read aloud is cited, not present.

Their claims

Showing 1–2 of 2 claims.

  1. unmapped (research reuse (denied)): Napoleon (Kubrick's unmade film) → Barry Lyndon. A host says the common belief that Kubrick moved his Napoleon research into Barry Lyndon is not true.
“I think people have long thought that Lyndon like took his Napoleon research and started putting it into Linden, but that's not true at all.”

  2. craft (shared star effect): Paper Moon → Barry Lyndon. O'Neal's lack of presence lets the actress in each of his films pop out.
“Yeah, but in a weird way, that sets up really good, interesting female performances.”
